Win-Win Situation: FreeRice.com

Re-discovered the site FreeRice, an online multiple-choice quiz in subjects from Spanish vocabulary to world capitals to chemical symbols. The great thing is, for every answer you get correct, they donate 10 (count em, 10) grains of rice to the United Nations World Food Programme.

Doesn’t sound like much? Well, according to the UN, a child dies every 6 seconds from hunger related causes. In just seven minutes spent testing my Spanish skills (can’t believe I forgot ‘el edificio’ means ‘building’), I managed to rack up 1,020 grains of rice!

As of February 9, 2010, they have donated a whopping 74,866,013,640 grains in total. So think about those six seconds, and try to visit the site once or twice a day.

  1. Another great charity site is AIDtoCHILDREN.com. It donates money to children in need through World Vision.
